Brett Russell – Personal Profile
In October 2006, at the age of 12, Brett won the FDC Young Designer Award after designing and making two outfits based on ‘Global Disasters’. Since then he has created five further collections: Dolly Breeze, Metal Funk, Glow, Back To The Future and Contour Séduisant.
Brett entered the 2008 Fashion Diversity Competition with his ‘Back To The Future collection. The finals were held at the Museum of London on September 20th and following a unanimous decision from the judges, Brett won, beating nine other finalists. One judge commented “He captured the brief of the competition perfectly with his 1960s influenced collection.” Brett’s prize money was £500 of which he put towards a pattern cutting course at the V&A Museum, London. In February 2009, in conjunction with London Fashion Week he showcased with Fashion TV and won the Black Diamond Award for best designer of the night. Later on that year Brett was invited back to Fashion Diversity to showcase his most recent collection Contour Seduisant. In November 2009 he was requested to showcase at the Rich Mix fashion show.
In February 2010, Brett was invited by Fashion TV to showcase at another London event.
Brett is currently studying at Highgate Wood School Arts College studying A-levels in Art & Design, Photography and Media studies. Brett aims to study at Central St Martins and then to eventually have his collections appear in international Fashion Weeks, i.e; London; New York; Paris; Milan. He wants his collections to be modelled by the likes of Naomi Campbell, Chanel Iman and Kate Moss, and ultimately build a fashion house for the future, ‘Brett Russell London’.
